Why LinkedIn endorsement is important?
Today, LinkedIn has more than 277 million members around the world and is the largest professional network on Internet. Members join LinkedIn, most likely because of their specialties, such as job search, people search, company search, professional identity and group collaboration.
Once you open an account on LinkedIn, your profile will be created, and your connection can view your details once you accept them. Other than contact information, education and career history, “Skills and Endorsements” is one of you valuable information as they provide credibility and networking opportunities.
But, how to make people endorse you for skills the really matter to you ?
1. Set you skills and endorsements
If you want to highlight the skills that are most important or relevant to you, you need to set up the “Skills and Endorsements” section in your profile. This will encourage people to view the skills and can endorse you right away. There are totally 50 skills that can add up to your profile. Many professional use this section to present their areas of expertise effectively.
2. Manage your endorsements on a regular basis
You should review your profile at least once a month. You have the options to display or hide each endorsement. Remove the skills or the endorsement that you are not related to, or, you don’t want to show on profile. Showing too many inappropriate skills will mislead your background and hence, put you to the wrong community.
3. Review Your Tab Thumbnails
Do be shy to ask people to endorse you. Remember, the main purpose of joining LinkedIn is to expand your network and meet new people. To build your professional image and credibility, ask your friends to endorse you in a few skills if necessary. These are ‘word-of-mouth’ compliment. Last but not least, try to ask endorsement from different countries, which is more respectful than just local ones.
